What services does the department provide?

The Department of Commerce is the administrative agency designated for receipt of federal workforce development grants and other federal funds pursuant to Chs. 20 and 445, Florida Statutes.The Bureau of One-Stop and Program Support, one of three program areas that comprises the Division of Workforce Services, partners with CareerSource Florida and the state's Local Workforce Development Boards to strengthen Florida's business climate by supporting employers and helping Floridians gain employment, remain employed and advance in their careers. How are services delivered?

The Bureau of One-Stop and Program Support is responsible for administering workforce programs and providing technical assistance and support to the Local Workforce Development Boards.

CareerSource's one-stop delivery system is the state's primary strategy for offering every Floridian access, through service sites or telephone or computer networks, to the following services: job search, referral, and placement assistance; career counseling and educational planning; recruitment and eligibility determination; and a range of training. The one-stop system includes a variety of educational and workforce agencies, referred to as one-stop partners.

What percentage of Workforce Services participants becomes employed?

In Fiscal Year 2021-22, 74% of individuals who received training services funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act entered the workforce.

Updates

Apprenticeships. The 2023 Legislature enacted Ch. 2023-81, Laws of Floridawhich states, among other provisions, that the REACH Office will facilitate coordination between the Department of Commerce, the Department of Education, and CareerSource Florida to develop and expand apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, and other work-based learning models and streamline efforts to recruit and onboard new students and new employers. Qualified businesses may receive a tax credit if they employ at least one apprentice, pre-apprentice, or student intern.
