Executive Direction and Support

Funds appropriated in the Executive Direction and Support Services category support agency-wide activities, including fiscal and budget activities, department administration, grant management, and contractual services. For the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Executive Direction includes the Office of Executive Director, Office of Inspector General, Office of Legislative Affairs, Office of External Affairs, and the Office of General Counsel. Executive Direction also includes the Office of Executive Investigations, which is comprised of four units: the Public Corruption Unit, the Professional Standards Unit, the Background Investigations Unit, and the Business Support Unit. The agency planning and research function, also housed within Executive Direction, provides analysis and research on key issues of interest to the law enforcement community and FDLE, including preparation of the Long Range Program Plan and the identification and analysis of current and future trends, conditions, and service requirements.

Business Support Services includes the Office of General Services, the Office of Financial Management, the Office of Human Resources, and the Office of Criminal Justice Grants. The Office of Criminal Justice Grants administers state grants, as appropriated by the Legislature, for pass-through to local law enforcement and other entities. It is also responsible for the management of federal grant programs awarded to the State of Florida from the U.S. Department of Justice for the state and local criminal justice community.  The specific grant programs are the
