Funds appropriated in the General Office category enable staff in the Executive Office of the Governor to provide general services that support the Governor in meeting his responsibilities. These services include the following.

  • Administration provides operational support through activities such as procurement and purchasing, fiscal management, budget preparation and execution, personnel administration, and maintenance of mailroom functions and supplies.
  • The Appointments Office supports the Governor in appointing qualified, representative, and appropriate people to leadership roles throughout the state.
  • Cabinet Affairs assists the Governor in carrying out Cabinet responsibilities and serves as liaison with Cabinet departments and agencies.
  • The Office of the Chief Inspector General promotes accountability, integrity, and efficiency in state government. The Chief Inspector General is responsible for monitoring the activities of the offices of inspectors general in the state agencies under the jurisdiction of the Governor.
  • Citizen Services provides courtesy greetings, ensures responses to all incoming correspondence for the Governor, and monitors state agencies under the jurisdiction of the Governor’s regarding complaints filed in writing and by telephone.
  • The Communications Office supports the Governor in disseminating information regarding programs and initiatives by providing information to radio, print, and television journalists; issuing press releases; scheduling press conferences; and announcing appointments.
  • The External Affairs office supports the Governor by advancing his public appearances and schedule, and acting as liaison for the Governor with citizens and public service groups. The office also coordinates volunteer and community initiatives, oversees the Governor’s special assistants, and issues proclamations on behalf of the Governor.
  • The Office of General Counsel provides counsel to the Governor regarding legal issues that arise in the day-to-day operation of the executive branch, represents the Governor in suits in which he is named in his official capacity, advises the Governor on clemency issues, functions as the chief ethics officer, assists the Governor with judicial and other appointments, and serves as the Governor’s liaison to the general counsels of state agencies.
  • The Legislative Affairs office advocates for passage of the Governor’s legislative priorities, ensures the proper and legal administration of the Governor’s legislative role throughout the legislative process, and provides counsel and support to the Governor and other staff members with regard to legislative matters and concerns. The office also provides the listing and progress of bills throughout the Legislative session. 
  • The Office of Adoption and Child Protection acts as the Governor’s liaison with agencies, governments, and the public on matters related to the promotion of adoption, support of adoptive families, and child abuse prevention.
  • The Office of Open Government provides the executive office and all state agencies with guidance and tools to serve Florida with integrity and transparency.
  • The Office of Policy and Budget provides coordinated planning, policy development, budgeting, and evaluation in support of the Governor, state agencies, and the Legislature, as well as provides departmental planning, policy, and budgetary analyses and recommendations to the executive office.
