The agency's purpose is to assure better health care for all Floridians. The agency is responsible for administering the Medicaid Program, licensing and regulating health facilities, and providing information to Floridians about the quality of the health care that they receive.

The agency's activities include the following.

• Health Care Policy and Oversight protects Floridians through oversight of health care providers. The division licenses and/or certifies and regulates 30 different types of healthcare providers, including hospitals, assisted living facilities, and home health agencies. In addition, the agency operates the Florida Center for Health Information and Transparency, which is responsible for collecting, compiling, analyzing, and disseminating health-related data for the purpose of developing public policy and promoting the transparency of consumer health care information through FloridaHealthFinder.
• Medicaid Health Care Services provides health care coverage to low-income families and individuals and assists the elderly and disabled with medical costs. The agency partners with the Florida Department of Children and Families, the Florida Department of Health, and the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation to provide healthcare for children who meet eligibility requirements from birth through the end of age 18. The agency also administers the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) Program. Under the SMMC Program, most Medicaid recipients are enrolled in a health plan. The SMMC Program includes three components, the Long-Term Care Program, the Managed Medical Assistance Program, and the Dental Program.
