The Department of Transportation is a decentralized agency. The department's headquarters in Tallahassee is responsible for developing policies and procedures and providing quality assurance, while its seven district offices and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise are responsible for building and maintaining roads and bridges. District offices are located in Broward, Columbia, Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Orange, Polk, Volusia, and Washington counties.
The Florida Transportation Commission provides the department policy guidance on issues of statewide importance and helps maintain public accountability through its annual Performance and Production Review of the Florida Department of Transportation.
The Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged ensures the availability of efficient, cost-effective, and quality transportation services for transportation disadvantaged persons.
