What is the purpose of the program?

The Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) six regulatory district offices ensure statewide compliance with department rules. The districts are generally DEP's front line in permitting, compliance, enforcement, and in helping the public, local governments and businesses better understand and protect Florida's natural resources. Each district office is under the charge of a District Director, who manages day-to-day program responsibilities, policy implementation, office administration, budgeting and accounting, public outreach and other administrative functions. District programs also respond to policy direction from their headquarters division counterparts in the Air, Waste, and Water programs.

Which department programs does district staff administer?

District staff administers programs related to regulating waste management, water resource management, wetlands, and air resources. Responsibilities include permitting, compliance, enforcement, technical assistance, and public outreach for the following DEP programs: air; domestic and industrial wastewater; drinking water; environmental resource permitting; solid and hazardous waste; storage tank regulation; and waste cleanup. District responsibilities include
  • timely reviewing and acting on permit applications;
  • onsite compliance inspections;

  • complaint response;
