In 1996, the Florida Legislature established a performance review process for school districts throughout the state. OPPAGA selected a private consulting firm to conduct a performance review of the Broward County School District. The purpose of the review was to identify opportunities for school districts to save funds, improve management, and increase efficiency and effectiveness. As specified by law, the Broward County School District was evaluated in the following 11 areas: school district organization and management, educational service delivery, community involvement, facilities use and management, personnel management, asset and risk management, financial management, purchasing, transportation, food service, and safety and security.
